Beatiful Mariah

I really don't carry around my SLR camera, so I rarely take "snapshots" with it. I hate how the flash drowns everything out, and my house there just isn't enough sunlight! However, I had my camera out at my mother-in-laws to delete some pictures. Mariah borrowed my chapstick, and I was able to snap this. I am pretty pleased with it, as it is straight out of the camera. No enhancements. :)

Sweet Little Squishy Newborn

This sweet little boy is the second child of my bestie and her husband. I was so thrilled to be able to have the opportunity to travel to go see them, as well as sweet little boy's big sister, for a long weekend.

Just ten days old, and this boy is melting hearts, mine included. I'm sure his mommy would agree!

Surely you remember this little guy from his 9/10 month pictures, as well as these from back in August. He keeps growing like a weed! One is just around the corner...

Anyways, his grandma enlisted me for a group picture. Of the whole family. 6 adults. 1 pre-toddler. 2 dogs. I think it went rather well, but feel free to form your own opinion!

Audie & Allen = Engaged!

I was pretty excited when Audie contacted me to do an engagement session with her and Allen, as I met Audie way back in college. Good times! ;)

We hit up several different locations in Wichita, but Old Town proved to be my favorite.

What a good looking couple! Congrats, and can't wait for the wedding!

Topeka, KS-- Engagement Session

I had a blast meeting up with these two, Will & Becky, at the Kansas History Museum in Topeka for an engagement session. The museum provided beautiful backgrounds to shoot at.

These two were very fun to work with, and took some amazing pictures.

I mean, look at her! She is STUNNING!

I couldn't decide which I liked better-- color or black and white.

It isn't often that I am speechless. It has taken me over a week to post this blog because I have been trying to figure out how to articulate the emotions that come from these pictures.

Faith.
Gratitude.
Belief.
Miracle.
Hope.

It is a very personal story, and I hope they don't mind me sharing a bit of it.

A year ago, tragedy struck.

A fire broke out at night, and by the grace of God, everyone escaped.

However, not unharmed.

The youngest, R, spent time recovering in a burn unit.

But, as you can see today, he, as well as his siblings, is all smiles.

I'm so thankful I had to opportunity to not only meet this family, but photograph them. They are truly an inspiration to us all.

I headed out to the country after work tonight. We had been waiting for the leaves to turn, and they finally did! The weather was cooperative so we jumped on the chance to update some pictures for these two beautiful children. Can't wait to edit the rest! Enjoy!

Landen's 9....er, 10.... month pictures!

Hard to believe that it was only a little over two months ago that we last took Landen's pictures, but the kiddo has changed so much!

Landen's momma and I had tried to arrange to meet up several times, but Mother Nature wasn't cooperating. Finally, Mother Nature listened to my pleas so we could capture these adorable pictures. I can't wait to look through the rest!

Mentor session with Kim Kravitz Photography

WHEW. Feels like it has taken me forever to sit down and write this. I had the opportunity to tag along with Kim Kravitz for a mentor session a couple of weeks ago on the K-State campus.

I mainly just hung back to watch Kim interact with the couple. It provided an awesome learning experience to see how photographers build rapport with their clients. This is probably the most valuable lesson I learned from my session. She gave me some hints, definite dos, and definite things to avoid in order to help clients become comfortable so that will be conveyed on camera.

Being an overcast day, we were able to talk about different lighting scenarios.

Kim attempted teach me, and the future newlyweds, the "Art of Dipping". Wish I would have a better shot to show you but mine, in comparison to Kim's, just doesn't do it justice!

We had several opportunities throughout the day to talk about posing so as not to make pictures look awkward. This was also one of the best pieces of advice I took from the session!

I'm happy to report that I may have met someone who might quite possibility have as much of a feet/shoe/leg picture fetish as I do. Woo hoo!

I had an amazing day with Kim. I wish I could have had a chance to talk to her about post-production editing, but I had a previous commitment I had to be at, so I left a tad early. However, Kim has been kind enough to message back and forth with me when I do have questions.

If you are looking for the opportunity to expand your knowledge, meet up with Kim for a mentor session. I promise you won't regret it!

L and I hit Soden's Grove today in Emporia because earlier in the week I had noticed some beautiful fall foliage. Only way I can get better is to practice, right? And on a VERY unwilling subject who was more worried about pulling his "friends" in his little wagon we brought along. (No, Mom, I don't have any pictures because right as L plopped down in it, he informed me he had wet his pants. On his friends. Lovely.)

P.S. L's "Friends" are stuffed animals. Five of them to be exact. Gus, Gus jr, Blue Bear, Spot the Dog, and the newest addition-- Bunny Dog.

Amelia...

I met Amelia and her parents today in South Park in Lawrence. We had a total blast. Amelia was a little shy at first, but we chased some butterflies, smelled some flowers, and she finally felt at ease. This girl has stunning eyes! Amelia repeatedly smiled for me, as well as talked and talked and talked. Made me feel right at home. :D

P.S. I had never experience game day in Lawrence before. Mass street was just a sea of blue and crimson! Rock Chalk Jayhawks. (I couldn't even tell you who they played or if they won!)

Malia is my supah good friend's daughter. Love Malia. I always tell her mom that she has spunk.

I think I captured that today. Not really any traditional portraits. Just the essence of Malia: Spunk.

We weren't really aiming for pictures, which is probably a good thing, but just a girls day. That is hard since I have a son, and Malia will soon have a little brother! Eeee!!

Taking pictures of your own spawn = FAIL

At least for me, I can never capture a FABULOUS picture of him. Ever. Perhaps it is because the child never.sits.still. Go go go go go go go go go. I suppose that is how all 2 year old boys are though, huh? He was much more interested in sticks and water running under the bridge than his mother with a camera. Oh well. All boy I guess. ;)

This is how our afternoon ended---notice the bloody knee. The spawn already had a scabby knee (is that even a word?? scabby??) that had been torn open once before. Then, he tore it open again today. Poor kid. I wish I would have taken the way I bandaged it for the way home: a diaper wrapped around his knee. Ha! We mothers have to be creative with blood is gushing!
Yes, I know his hat doesn't match, but he loves it. He loves to wear hats. His favorite is a camo hat, just like his daddy.

Jeff, Emily, and I met up at Ottawa's Old Depot Museum. After that, Jeff and Emily were brave enough to follow me around Ottawa to capture some awesome shots. These are just a few!

Jeff was cracking jokes that were making me laugh. A lot. These two compliment each other's personalities so well, that I am sure they will have an amazing, laughter-filled marriage ahead of them.

Ashley is a former student of mine who became engaged this past May.

I was super psyched when she agreed to let me do some engagement pictures. If I do say so myself, they came out awesome!

We had so much fun wondering around Emporia's campus.

These two are hilarious, and it is evident to everyone how much in love they are.

Ashley became a little worried at one point about some potential trespassing, but we got some great shots out of the deal. I'm sure you will see more from this shoot!

These are just a few of the pictures I snapped while I was with this family! I think this is one of those families that just oozes fun. The parents tried everything to get these girls to smile--funny faces, funny noises, funny movements-- and it obviously worked.

One of my best friend's daughter-- Addy! Funny that our children are almost 9 months EXACTLY apart.

Anyhow, I loved hanging out with Miss Addy and her momma this weekend. We will have to do it again sometime soon. Seems like when you grow up you don't get to see your friends near enough, huh? Funny how that works out.

Way back when, my husband's sister and I were due three days apart. Well, she went into labor three weeks early, and I was 10 days late! Our kiddos ended up 4 weeks apart, and they couldn't be better friends. Let's hope that continues throughout their lives.
